First a great thanks to =lordsargon for his generous gift of a year's premium subscription to DA! Its a wonderful thing to know that someone likes your work enough to do something like that! So, again, Thanks so much =lordsargon!!!
On another topic...Canon "L" lenses. I've really enjoyed the Canon EFS 10-22 that I picked up several weeks ago. Its a great lens - sharp enough to make you eye bleed when focusing. However, there is one shortcoming associated with particular piece of glass - it doesn't have a red stripe! Why is that important? Hell, I don't know. Having the red stripe doesn't improve the IQ, it doesn't make the lens more useful, and it doesn't make me more handsome. Still, for some ridiculous reason, having the red stripe does make a difference. So, even though the 10-22 is a great lens, I've had to spend the rest of my lunch money on some "L"...
I just picked up the 100-400 f4.5-5.6L IS. I decided to shoot some birds and my other long "L", the 70-200 2.8L IS, just wasn't going to cut it. Now, if it would just warm-up and the f'king sun would shine, I can see what this wonderful chunk of "L" can do. Unfortunately, I know 400 isn't going to be long enough, so I'll probably end up having to get the 1.4x teleconverter to go with it. No, its not "L", but it is grey/white just like the lens, so its close enough.
Now, if only I could afford to eat...
